Location: Dallas, TX

Amount of Travel Required: Up to 20%

Work Schedule: Full time

Positions Supervised: None to start, but will build operations organization.


Position Summary:

Osteal Therapeutics, Inc. (Osteal) is a late clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing a novel pipeline of combination product therapeutics for musculoskeletal infections and their consequences. Our lead investigational candidate, VT-X7 was granted Orphan Disease, FastTrack and Qualified Infectious Disease Product designations by the US Food and Drug Administration and is rapidly completing its clinical trial program for the treatment of Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI). With a robust pipeline of additional indications and therapeutic candidates, we anticipate rapid and sustained growth for the foreseeable future.

Osteal is looking for an experienced Director of Operations to build and lead our operations team. Reporting to the COO, the Director of Operations will be an important member of the Osteal team, providing strategic and operational leadership in the development, implementation, and oversight of Osteal’s operations function including supply chain, inventory and purchasing. This is an opportunity for an experienced operations executive to get involved early and play a central role in shaping all operations activities at the company.


Essential Functions:

Essential functions of the position Include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Develop and implement the clinical and commercial supply chain, inventory and purchasing functions including structure and processes.

  • Interview, hire, train, and mentor the operations team.

  • Supervise the operations department and personnel.

  • Manage operations aspects of corporate systems (e.g., enterprise resource planning system)

  • Provide input on the ongoing strategic development of operations.

  • Develop key performance indicators for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Assess internal/external performance for opportunities for improvement.

  • Define and implement strategies for optimizing operational efficiency.

  • Manage the operations budget.

  • Report to the senior leadership team on operational performance.


Experience and Education:

  • Batchelor’s degree (minimum)

  • Minimum 5-years of experience in operations with strong track record in leadership.

  • Work in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or medical device industry is preferred, but not required.

  • Experienced operations team member with strong track record in leadership.

  • Past performance in building/growing an operations team. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budget.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to set strategy and drive process improvement.

  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.

  • Effective working independently with minimal direction.

  • Hands-on, driven work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Willing and able to travel as needed (typically 10-20%).

Computer Software/Programs:

  • MS Office

  • Familiarity with operational tools (e.g., various ERPs) is preferred but not required.
